The answer is “It depends…”. It depends on the type, size of garage door you have and it depends on what features you’re looking for in a motor. If we must give an approximate price range, we can say it costs anywhere from $450 to $650 for a residential garage door motor.
We understand that most Customers would like to “compare quotes” or ask us to match a quote they’ve been given. We can certainly match quotes, but it has to be for the same type brand & model of motor, accessories and warranty terms.
When you call or email us to get a quote to replace your Garage Door motor, we will determine the cost based on the following factors.
Garage Door Type & Size
As you know there are 3 type of garage doors, Roller Doors, Sectional / Panel Doors or the Tilt 1 Piece Doors. In general, the Roller Doors are easier to automate and the Tilt Doors are usually harder to handle.
There’s also different size of garage doors. You have the standard single which is around 2m high by 2.5m wide. A DOUBLE garage door is 1 big door which measures around 2.3m high by 5m wide. Obviously, if you have a bigger garage door we will have to use a bigger motor or a “heavy duty” motor to be able to drive your door. You also have other sizes in between such as “one and a half” garage door which measures around 3.5m wide, this does not make a huge difference to the price, but it does!
To give you a very brief idea of pricing, here are some possible prices. Again, these prices are guidelines only and not fixed prices.
- Supply & Install a standard Single Roller or Sectional Door motor – starting from $450
- Supply & Install a standard Single Tilt Door motor – starting from $470
- Supply & Install a standard Double / Sectional Roller Door motor – starting from $550
- Supply & Install a standard Double Tilt Door motor – starting from $620
The above are price indication only, please give us a call to discuss your door specific requirements and we will provide a more accurate quote.
Complexity of the Job
We wish automating every garage door is straightforward, but it’s not! Most garages have standard structural layout, but once in awhile you come across one that has no clearance, no concrete headroom, no power points, no alternative access and so on. There are also times when the garage has a 5m ceiling height!
With the above instances, we will quote extra to work around all possible obstacles and make it happen for you. We will clearly explain to you and fully disclose all additional cost for the additional work we have to do.
Brand of Motor & Features
Some of our Customers are just happy to operate the garage with remote controls and as long as it opens and closes automatically, they’re happy. Others are more savvy with garage door motors technology and they would request for specific brands or features. And obviously there is a price variations between the different brands of motors and the specific features you’re after.
